Leopard: What’s new?

In ca. one month Apple will introduce the sixth operating system, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. With Leopard some very nice improvements but also new programmes will appear on the Macs, all together 300 new features. Here are some of the facts which were published yet:At first I want mention Time Machine, that’s a real great feature. It’s a programme that makes automaticly backups in real time on an extern harddisk. So, it’s nearly impossible to lose data. Explanation: If you lose a data on your Mac, you can make something like a time journey on your harddisk, and search the lost data in the past. Three other important improvements:

  1. native 64-Bit Support
  2. Multi Core Optimization
  3. Core Animation (provide user scurfaces)

More features:

  • Leopard Mail, with more than 30 themes for more personally E-Mails on Mac and Windows. Leopard Mail adjusts its information with iCall.
  • iChat, with new design and features, for example you can make a new background, so that you have the moon as background instead of your room. Very funny!
  • Leopard iCall, for organizing meetings etc.
  • Spaces, for providing desktops which are for special projects, you can change the desktop with a mouse click.
  • Web Clip, for using Widgets.
  • Boot Camp, with this feature you can run Windows on your intel based Mac.
  • Xcode, a tool with an next generation editor.
  • Interface Builder, for easier integrating animations in an application.
  • DashCode, provide an Dashboard Widget without writing one word of code.
  • Xray, with this programme you can optimaze other porgrammes.

These were just a few of the new features which will be introduced with Leopard. Apple’s new operating system will be published in October and it will cost ca. 130 Euro. I think thats OK, Vista costs up to 500 Euro.
